Darrell Bain Over the last several years, Darrell Bain has become one of the top best selling authors in the world in the realm of electronic publishing. Most of Bain’s books are also in print. He produces a monthly newsletter, discoursing on various subjects brought up by fans or by his own voracious reading habit, written in an informal, narrative style. Darrell is the author of more than two dozen books in many genres, running the gamut from humor to mystery and science fiction to non-fiction. For the last several years he has concentrated on science fiction and suspense/thrillers, with an occasional foray into humor and short stories. Some of his most memorable titles are The Sex Gates, Savage Survival, Alien Infection, The Melanin Apocalypse, Strange Valley, The Pet Plague trilogy and the Williard Brothers series.
Darrell served 13 years in the military and his two stints in Vietnam formed the basis for his first published novel, Medics Wild, and the sequels featuring the zany Williard brothers, where the latest book has brought them up to their present day exploits. Darrell has been writing off and on all his life but really got serious about it only after the advent of computers. He purchased his first one in 1989 and has been writing furiously ever since.
While Darrell was working as a lab manager at a hospital in Texas, he met his wife Betty. He trapped her under a mistletoe sprig and they were married a year later. Darrell and Betty operated a Christmas tree farm in East Texas for many years, which became the subject and backdrop for many of his humorous stories and books.
The Bain family consists of he and his wife Betty and their dachshunds, Tonto and Susie, along with Velcro the cat. They still live on the site of their Christmas tree farm, though it is no longer in business. Darrell is a full time writer now and Betty is retired. They spend most of their leisure time reading.

|  | My younger brother Gary is a charming, humorous, articulate, romantic adventurer and warrior. He’s one of those types of men the rest of us admire and fantasize about, wishing we could be more like them. In the olden days, he would have been a Mountain Man or a Knight or perhaps even a Pirate or Buccaneer. In any era, he would always have been one of the first to cross the mountains, the wide rivers or brave the unexplored oceans. Even today, in the late autumn of his life, he’s always doing something new and interesting and he always has fun at it. We’ve had many a laugh together and shed a few tears during our lives. He’s always been my best friend and I only wish I had preserved more of our conversations and letters. And finally, a talking dog makes it science fiction in my book, even if he did do it only that one magical night. |  | The Galaxy is being colonized by well financed groups and nations but the UN is increasing its control of earth and now wants to control the colonies as well. A confederacy of ships bought by groups from the United States has a different idea about the type government they want and are willing to fight for it. Sage Gomez learns his parents are among them and that he will be leaving for the stars. He has no idea of how much trouble is waiting for them beyond earth. They're on the run but Quanty's unasked for "help" causes them to fall into one disaster after another, with no end in sight. |  | A surprise assault on an Exploration Corps starship by implacably hostile, xenophobic aliens leaves its one remaining longboat as the only option for warning the home worlds of the existence of the predators. Unfortunately, the starship met disaster while thousands of light years from Earth. Theoretically, that sort of voyage in a longboat is possible but has never been attempted. In order to return, the crew has to stop on numerous unknown planets to renew supplies and hydrogen fuel many, many times along the way. They know they will certainly face danger and inimical life forms, as well as the hazards of braving interstellar space in a ship meant only for travel within a solar system. And before they get anywhere close to Earth they will need to figure out a way to destroy a much larger and much better armed alien starship. The ship shadowing their every move must not be allowed to follow them home to Earth and its colonies. The long journey has to succeed, even as more and more members of the crew fall prey to perils of the incredible journey. Humanity must be warned. There will be no second chance. Fail, and the poorly armed home worlds will likely die. |  | The Frontier Rebellion is another masterful novel by Darrell Bain, author of Human by Choice, Alien Infection, Starship Down, The Long Way Home and many others.
|  | This is a much revised, updated and re-edited version of a simple article I wrote years ago listing my 100 most re-readable science fiction novels. In this edition, that article has now grown to over 16,000 words and encompasses somewhere around 200 novels that entail untold hours of treasured reading experiences. So much new science fiction has come out in the last few years, as well as older titles I missed when this was first published, that I felt readers deserved a new, expanded edition with many more entries and descriptions of them, including a list of my favorite science fiction series. This book is based on articles published during the first year of “The Golden Goblet” Newsletter edited by Marilyn Peake, and features additional articles by contributing authors written expressly for this book. |  | Does time exist as a separate dimension? Does it have a unique place with definable limits in space? Does it move independently according to its own purpose? Or does it only move when other things move, completely dependent on prevailing conditions and binding dimensions in its surrounding space-a causal result bound to the whole? Perhaps it’s just a simpleminded construct humans have concocted to explain the inexplicable. Is it vaguely possible that it’s a set of branes slightly out of sync and we may pass from one to the next at will? Maybe it’s a simple kink in dimensions that can be crossed by anyone walking in precisely the right direction. It could be that it’s just a mental state altered simply by a minor amount of imagination applied correctly. Perhaps it is no more than a drug- or mantra-induced change of mental state-something hallucinated-something seen but unseeable. Or is there more to it than we can fathom?
